INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP

this is the class intented to teach photoshop to anyone interested, so to kick things off I have an ebook that covers the basic tools of photoshop to help familiarize you with the tools in photoshop.

I cant over state or exaggerate how massive photoshop is, from photoediting to manipulation to comics to video to animation, but for this class we shall only deal with photoshop in relation to photoediting and retouching.

so lets kick things off with the photoshop interface, at the top we have the menu bar, where you have the file, edit, view, windows, select, layer and other menus, in the menu bar you have all the tools that photoshop has to offer.

below the menu bar and to the left of the screen are the toolbars, these contain the essential and most used tools that photoshop has in store for quick access, most of the time you will make use of the toolbar more than the menu bar.

in between the menu bar and the tool bar you have the option bar, these are context sensitive in the sense that they display according to what you have selected in the tool bar, they really come in handy when you are working with photoshop.

then on the right of photoshop you have your palettes, in which you have tools to help your work flow in photoshop, it is highly customizable in the sense that you can rearrange it in anyway you see fit, you can delete palletes and you can add them, you can reduce them and you can save them.

THE TOOL BAR

now without further delay lets jump to the toolbar selection tools which you will find out to be the most important bunch of tools in photoshop

they are...

1. The move tool
2. The Marquee tool
3. The Lasso Tool
4. The Magic Wand Tool
5. The Slice tool

THE MOVE TOOL
This tool is used to move stuff around in the canvas in photoshop, from place to place and also to relocate objects on the canvas

RECTANGULAR MARQUEE TOOL
This tool allows the user to select rectangular shaped areas within an image. The areas can then be copied or cut and then pasted into new layers.

The tool also can become a bounding border for "pouring" color with the Paint
Bucket or Gradient tools. Other marquee tools are available by clicking and holding the button like the circle marquee tool and the horizontal line and vertical line marquee

THE MAGIC WAND is used to select portions of an image based on
color. Sections of the same color are selected when the wand it touched on the desired
color and the mouse if left clicked.

LASSO TOOL: This
tool is used to select parts of a layer for editing. There are other
types of lassos available, including a Magnetic Lasso and Polygonal Lasso.

The slice tool is used to cut images into slices used mostly for designing websites in photoshop.

Next time I will show what you can achieve using only the above mentioned tools
